Build a payday calendar with the right shift rule

Keep scheduled pay dates separate from your employer’s treatment of weekends and holidays.

Choose your pay frequency and a known pay date. The default does not move paydays; apply previous or next business-day shifting only when it matches your employer’s rule.

Use a known date as the anchor

A biweekly schedule repeats every 14 days from an anchor. It is different from being paid twice a month. Start with a date that belongs to the regular schedule and select the frequency that matches your pay arrangement.

If a holiday moved your last deposit, check the normal scheduled date before using it as an anchor. Otherwise, one unusual deposit can shift the whole calendar.

  1. Choose the year and actual pay frequency.
  2. Enter A known payday. Twice-a-month pay uses the 15th and month end; monthly pay uses the anchor’s day, limited by the month length.
  3. Leave shifting off unless you know your employer’s rule.
  4. Review weekend and holiday collisions in the result.

A collision is a question, not an instruction

The default reports the collision without assuming that your employer pays early or late. If your policy says the previous business day, select that rule. If it says the next business day, select that instead.

The calendar is a planning model. Bank processing, payroll corrections, and employer exceptions can affect an actual deposit. Confirm an important payment with payroll.

Take the dates into your planning

Review the year’s sequence and any dates that cross a month boundary after shifting. Use the result to organize reminders, then recheck it when the schedule changes.

For extra-paycheck months, use the companion tool with the same frequency and anchor. The number of deposits in a month is not a calculation of take-home pay or an instruction to spend it.

Questions, answered

Is biweekly the same as twice monthly?

No. Biweekly repeats every 14 days. Twice monthly follows two scheduled dates in each month.

Why did the tool leave a payday on a holiday?

No shift is the default. Choose a previous or next business-day rule only if your employer uses it.
